Her Excellency Dr. Aleksandra Bukowska-McCabe, Ambassador of Poland to Lebanon visits Deir El Salib Psychiatric Hospital
On June 10, 2025, Her Excellency Dr. Aleksandra Bukowska-McCabe, Ambassador of Poland to Lebanon, paid a meaningful and heartfelt visit to the Sisters of the Cross, Deir El Salib Psychiatric Hospital.
Upon her arrival, the Ambassador was warmly received by Sister Hiam Badawi, Superior of the hospital; Sister Rose Hanna, Director of the hospital; as well as by the hospital’s psychiatrists, psychologists, head of the nursing department, members of the management team, and distinguished guests. During her tour, Her Excellency visited various hospital pavilions and was introduced to the legacy of Father Yaacoub, whose life and mission continue to inspire acts of compassion, healing, and service.
The Ambassador also visited the Sisters’ atelier creative workshop space primarily run by the Sisters themselves and occasionally involving patients under their attentive guidance. This collaboration serves as a beautiful example of how creativity and therapeutic care intertwine, offering both artistic expression and emotional healing.
The atmosphere throughout the visit was uplifting and deeply moving. Ambassador Bukowska-McCabe expressed profound admiration for the professionalism, compassion, and dedication of the Sisters and the medical staff, as well as the resilience and courage of the patients. She conveyed a heartfelt message of love, solidarity, and hope, emphasizing that the devotion and humanity demonstrated by the team make the hospital not only a place of treatment, but also a sanctuary of dignity and respect.
In her concluding remarks, Her Excellency shared her aspiration to explore avenues through which the Polish Embassy and potentially other partners might support the hospital’s mission. She highlighted possibilities for sustainable initiatives, humanitarian collaborations, and long-term engagement that would meaningfully enhance the well-being of the patients and support the enduring humanitarian vision of the Sisters.
