Lebanon joins International Solar Alliance (ISA)
Today, Lebanon has joined International Solar Alliance (ISA) with HE Dr Walid Fayad, Minister of Energy and Water signing the Framework Agreement of ISA in Beirut in the presence of HE Md Noor Rahman Sheikh, Ambassador of India to Lebanon.
The International Solar Alliance, jointly launched by India’s Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and the then French President on the sidelines of UN Conference on Climate Change COP-21 in Paris in 2015, is an action-oriented, member-driven, collaborative platform for increased deployment of solar energy technologies as a means for bringing energy access, ensuring energy security, and driving energy transition in its member countries. So far, 119 countries have signed the Framework Agreement of ISA- these include France, USA, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Brazil, Argentina etc. Lebanon has become the 120th country to become a signatory of ISA.
The ISA strives to develop and deploy cost-effective and transformational energy solutions powered by the sun to help member countries develop low-carbon growth trajectories.
As Lebanon has abundant sunlight in 330 days in a year, with Lebanon joining ISA, it is expected that more solar energy-related projects would be forthcoming in Lebanon to help in addressing the energy needs in the country.
