Malta: a Gem of the Mediterranean

Joelle A. AZIZ, the owner of Joelle Aziz Translation Firm and founder of the mediatic platform SignaturebyJ, recently embarked on a captivating journey through Malta, a gem of the Mediterranean.

Aziz describes her journey as follows:

As I wandered through Malta’s ancient streets, each city unfolded its unique story, blending history, culture, and breathtaking beauty.

My journey began in Valletta, Malta’s vibrant capital, where every corner hid centuries of history. The grand architecture, stunning views of the Grand Harbour, and the lively atmosphere of the city center left me mesmerized. The city's blend of the old and the new, with its ancient fortifications and modern cultural scene, perfectly captured Malta's unique charm.

From the bustling energy of Valletta, I ventured to Mdina, the silent city. The tranquility here was palpable, with its narrow streets and majestic, centuries-old buildings. As I explored the city, it felt as though time had stood still. The panoramic views from the city walls were simply breathtaking.

The Three Cities—Birgu, Senglea, and Cospicua had each its own charm. The fortified walls and marinas of these cities painted a picturesque scene against the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea. I spent hours strolling along the waterfront, soaking in the rich maritime history and the welcoming atmosphere of the local communities.

Gozo Island, with its stunning coastlines, provided a refreshing contrast to the more urbanized areas. The tranquility of the island and the crystal-clear waters of its beaches made this part of the journey a true escape.

In Marsaxlokk, the vibrant colors of the traditional fishing boats, known as luzzus, and the lively fish market captured my heart. The authenticity of this fishing village, with its warm and friendly locals, made it one of the highlights of my visit.

Saint Julian’s and Sliema, with their modern vibes, offered a different side of Malta. In Saint Julian’s, I found myself captivated by the marina, where luxurious yachts anchored. The vibrant streets were filled with a variety of shops and restaurants, offering a lively and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Meanwhile, Sliema’s architectural beauty stood out, with its blend of modern apartments and traditional Maltese townhouses. The coastal views in Sliema, especially at sunset, were breathtaking. The mix of old and new in these cities was fascinating.

Rabat, with its historical significance and quieter pace, allowed me to delve deeper into Malta’s rich culture. As I walked through the peaceful streets, I felt a deep connection to the island’s past.

Finally, Portomaso, with its luxurious marina and sophisticated ambiance, offered a glimpse into Malta’s modern elegance. The upscale restaurants, chic boutiques, and the stunning marina made this a fitting end to my journey.

Maltese cuisine blends Mediterranean flavors with unique local twists. The island’s cuisine is characterized by fresh ingredients, particularly seafood, and a variety of dishes that reflect the diverse cultures that have shaped Malta over centuries. Whether in a bustling city or a quiet village, the food in Malta offers a delicious insight into the island’s vibrant culture and history.

During my exploration, I had the pleasure of meeting with Benestates, an estate company that truly understands the essence of Malta. The company’s commitment to blending Malta’s rich heritage with modern living was evident. Benestates offered not just homes but a lifestyle—one that captures the spirit of Malta’s beauty, culture, and charm. Their properties are a perfect reflection of Malta’s diversity, combining historical architecture with contemporary luxury.

My journey through Malta was a blend of the old and the new, the historic and the modern, and through it all, the island’s undeniable charm left an indelible mark on me.
